The Show 'n Shine kicked off first thing Saturday morning, as the festivities would head down the road to KCIR for drag racing later in the day. | New Jersey-native Dennis Kaese brought his '91 Typhoon prototype wearing fender and hood louvers, as well as some stickers added since leaving the PAS facilities. Other mods include PEP coilovers and Baer brakes front and rear. | This otherwise stock-looking Sy sported dealer-installed flames, says owner Vince Jamnik, who also made the trip all the way from Colorado. |
John Rust made the short drive from St. Louis to display his Indy Sy "clone." | Heather Klepinger's Ty was awarded the Broken Truck award after attempting to jumper the ALDL port in an attempt to lock the converter for a few extra tenths. The end result was a spun rod bearing, two spun mains, and a great story. Wade Segrest escorted her as she limped the Ty back to the hotel. | The 2006 Nats yielded a good turnout-including a few hotties, and quite a few hot trucks, too. The future looks bright for the club, and as Nats committee member Aaron Klinger says: "All signs point to an absolutely huge turnout next year at the 10th annual event." |
Unfortunately, John Frey (in his twin turbo Syclone), had problems adjusting to the altitude in Kansas City. His best run was in the low 10s, but clearly not at all a healthy pass. As the only other entrant in the Pro Class besides Robert Pothorcki, John did manage to bring a runner-up trophy home to Colorado. | When racing resumed, Pothorcki asked, "Who's your daddy?" running 9.18 at 152 mph in the Pro Class finals. Not bad for a single turbo AWD truck with no nitrous and an overdrive tranny.... | ...Unfortunately, Robert's 4-point Swedish-spec cage caused a premature end to the day, as he was forbidden from making any more runs. |
