2007 ISSCA Nationals - Plus-Size Speed & Agility
Bradley Salemie of WAIL (Washington Area Impala Lovers) had an unfortunate mishap on Turn One of the road race course and in the process smashed up the car's driver side along with some minor damage on the passenger side. Look for Bradley to bring this once-beautiful '96 SS back from the brink to once again be one of the cleanest dual-purpose cars at the event. | John Williamson of St. Mary's City, MA, placed Third in the Autocross competition, posting a time of 55:653 in the stock class, but his outing at the road race the day before was almost disastrous. As the first victim to succumb to a cooling system malady, the car overheated, and by the time he was flagged down, DexCool coated more than a quarter of the racing surface, halting racing for almost an hour. | Jesse Jackson Jr. of Blackwood, NJ, displays his '95 Impala SS in the modified category for vehicles over 150K miles, where he won First place. In addition to "Lambo" style front doors, the Impy features custom paint, graphics, and wheels. | A veritable sea of Impala SS's mostly clad in black dominated the landscape in Gateway International Raceway's pit area. In stark contrast to many national level shows, the majority of cars arrived under their own power and didn't just appear on a trailer a mere five minutes from their appointed judging time. These guys and gals pitched tents, mingled, and generally had a good time showing off their pristine rides without displaying animosity toward each other or the judges. Congrats, folks-a car show for enthusiasts by enthusiasts. | Dave Hulshoff powers around the road course in his '96 Buick Roadmaster Wagon to a First-place finish in the stock class. After posting 1:23.792 in competition, racers were left agog on how the Brentwood, MI-based Woody could put almost 4 seconds of gap between himself and the Second-place finisher. | Alfred Kreur of Floyd Knobs, IN, deposits his '96 mild stock Impala SS into the judging area where Senior Judge Jay Johnston of San Antonio, TX, goes over every detail. When the points were tallied up, Alfred placed First in the under 50K mileage segment in no small part due to exceptional detailing. | Bob and Lynn Borchers of Melbourne, FL, members of the Go Fast group, patiently wait for Doug Wood of Woodstock, GA, to complete his examination of their modified '95 "Impala SS" wagon. With well over 100K on the odometer, this was an exceptional interpretation of what the Bow Tie boys could have produced! | A sea of B - and D-bodies form a mile-long lineup on the speedway surface at Gateway International during a parade lap between road racing sessions. | RMS Auto Parts was the primary sponsor of the '07 ISSCA Nationals, and in addition to providing free ice-cold bottled water, they came to the rescue of many a racer. Its slogan is "keeping your ride on the road," and if the comprehensive selection of fluids, radiator hoses, brake rotors, and pads weren't enough, there was even a built 4L60E on hand. |
