LS Motors - LSX Shootout
 | Driver/tuner Wade Stevens... Driver/tuner Wade Stevens and car owner Andre Avigdor came all the way from Ontario, Canada, with this 'Bird. The iron 402 is topped with ETP LS7 heads and has a ported LS7 manifold, 105mm TB, and 98mm Precision Turbo. Originally built for the Canadian Fastest Street Car Shootout, it was clear it fit in well in the U.S.: Stevens was the number 3 qualifier with an 8.03/178, and defeated both Chad Smith and Bill Maloney to make it to the semis. "Drag radials are tricky!" he quipped, and even though he boosted to a 7.91/177, it wasn't enough to take Kempf out, who ran a 7.82/186, and beat Wade on the tree. | It was game time for Paul... It was game time for Paul Major, and he was in the zone. The Ft. Salonga, NY denizen wheels an '01 Z06 that is, shall we say, a bit quicker than stock. A 427 LSX block is the stout foundation, C5R heads are on top, and a massive 106mm turbo compresses atmosphere at a DFI's request. An 8.11/178 qualified him fourth, and he ran a 7.90/180 in the first round and a 7.96/180 in the second. Major pulled a bye run in the semis and stated "I'll get aggressive on the launch to see how much it'll hold on the line." A 7.94/179 was the result, and he was in the finals. Did we mention he dominated the LSX Dyno Challenge with over 1100 rwhp, and won a grand, as well? | | Let's just say the week leading... Let's just say the week leading up to the LSX Shootout was ... interesting for Harrison Township, MI resident Tom Kempf. The Tuesday before LSX, the Kempf team was testing at Norwalk and stuffed it into the wall after a low 8-second pass. Only problem was, they were supposed to leave for Memphis on Thursday, and there were lots of things to fix and parts to replace-we'll just mention the front suspension, passenger door, and seriously mangled frame (over 3 inches at the door jamb) so you get the picture. Work began Wednesday afternoon, and the car was fixed and ready to travel Thursday at 6 p.m.! | Tom's Red Rocket is powered... Tom's Red Rocket is powered by a 400 LSX block (see elsewhere in this issue to follow the build) and relies on ETP canted-valve heads to inhale 26 pounds of boost from a Precision Turbo 101mm hairdryer. Set up by Joe from Stenod and with Harlan manning the BS3 controls, the Rocket was able to run straight and true during qualifying, eventually coming in at the number two spot with a 7.85/185. Tom had perhaps the toughest road to the finals as Ken, Mike, and Wade gave him good races, but Kempf's 8.00/187, 8.04/185, and 7.82/186 took him to the finals to meet Paul Major. | LSX Drag Radial Final: TOM...
