Post-Bash Smash
There were a few interesting transplants, including Alan Tangen's '85 Monte Carlo, which had the benefit of a 383 L98 TPI motor out of an '88 Camaro. | Anthony Ferguson's 1980 Malibu sported a TPI 305, a 700-R4, a slick paint job, and Cragar S/Ss. The Warminster, PA-native was eliminated in the first round of Radial Tire B2 class, but we give him an "A" for effort and looks. | Alcohol injection was all the rage among the turbo 3.8s on hand, including Wes Dalrymple's mid 11-second TTA, which boasts an upgraded turbo pumping out 18 psi, and a 12-bolt. | Frank DeNinno, of Blackwood, NJ, made it all the way to the third round before being eliminated in Radial Tire B1 by Eric Fischer's '98 Vette (the eventual winner). A GTQ72 turbo and Big Stuff 3 are responsible for making this '92 Typhoon one of the fastest in the country, running a best of 10.76 at 128 mph. However, on race day he managed only an 11.01 at 125. | | Now that's a spicy meatball! Carnage is always good for the spectators, bad for the participants. | Fresh from the paint shop, ESP Products' shop car came to demonstrate just how potent its twin-turbo kit can be. Unfortunately, they arrived too late to register for the GMHTP classes, but still managed to get in a few 10-second passes on E-town's sticky track. | Larry Bodine, of Hammonton, NJ, made some of the most dramatic launches on the day. However, his '99 TA was eliminated in Round 1 of the Quick Time 8. Larry's 10.89 at 127 mph is impressive in most circles, but not this one. | Tom Sherer, of King of Prussia, PA, was one of several FWD GM owners, sporting his 2004 Grand Prix GT. While it began life naturally aspirated, a Car Tuning turbo kit pumping out 9 psi has helped him go 13.4 at 105 mph. |
