Event organizer Tony Shepherd will probably never hear the end of breaking the driveshaft on Kyle McKenzie's Formula. Jeff Green swapped out his Opti in under two hours after the rotor pin let go to qualify, but was only able to coast to an 11.20 after the transmission let go-way off his best of 9.50 at 150 mph. Unknown to Jeff at the time, the cam pin had also sheared, which probably resulted in the wheelhop that broke the trans and bent the rear sway bar. If you're wondering, that's not silver paint on that block, it's a 446ci aluminum Donovan that's been welded and milled into the shape of an LT1 block, making 1,300 horses with the factory OBD-I PCM! Jeff has kept this 4,400-pound beast as stock as possible and even runs the original 10-bolt rear housing. We will go into detail on this amazing car in an upcoming feature.
