This past weekend, March 18-20, marked the very first GM Performance Parts LSX Challenge Series race. While not the largest gathering of Gen III/IVs, spirits were still high and all signs point towards a large showing at the April race in Georgia. The NMCA put on a great show as usual, from the jet dragster to the unbelievable Outlaw and Drag Radial cars pushing the limits, and a bountiful manufacturers midway. The crew from Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center, the largest GM Performance Parts dealer, was (of course) on hand to show off its catalogue of LSX parts, and was even so gracious as to cover the entry fee for any LSX participants. Yes…that means any LSX that showed up to race, did so for free. And guess what? They are doing it again. Scoggin-Dickey will be picking up the tab for any LSX racer at the Atlanta Dragway event, April 14-17. So come on out and show off your LSX, the Bradenton event was proof positive that you don’t need the biggest bank account to go home with a trophy, some money in your pocket, and have a great time in the process. Stay tuned for full coverage in the August issue of GMHTP.

At long last, LSX fans got to witness the two fastest All Motor cars go head to head. Bobby Lashley had difficulty matching his record-setting 8.29 in Bradenton, but look for him to be in full force at his home track next month.

The School of Automotive Machinists thrashed up until the very last minute to get their All Motor Camaro SS ready in time, shedding over 300-pounds with new doors, front end and flooring. A few changes to the cam specs also helped, as did some crucial adjustments that had Judson Massengill qualifying with an 8.32 at 162mph. Despite this dominating effort, All Motor was the most competitive and interesting class at Bradenton.

The LS1 Excitement from North Carolina couldn’t wait to get down to Bradenton to show off their two-car team effort. Paul Falcon’s nitrous Trans Am is a beast, capable of mid 8s, even in the Florida heat.

Ted Timmerman’s yellow convertible...

Ted Timmerman’s yellow convertible TA sported a turbo setup that should also prove competitive with more track and tuning time. It was a thrash to get it ready in time, but it wound up running a 9.0 during qualifying.

Mike Meeks was all the talk,...

Mike Meeks was all the talk, as his Firebird looks to be the strongest nitrous contender in Drag Radial this year. He lit up the scoreboard with a 7.91 during qualifying, and though he had some issues this weekend–it couldn’t tarnish the memory of this amazing pass.

Mark Carlyle revamped his...

Mark Carlyle revamped his setup drastically with a 106mm turbo, new piping and a unique funny car cage to mate to the aluminum frame in his Z06. While he didn’t set any new personal or IRS records for e.t., the big turbo had him going through the traps 6mph faster on his first clean run during qualifying.
