Mark Carlyle and his crew... Mark Carlyle and his crew from IPS Motorsports brought out his gorgeous C6 Z06, which would end up resetting the C5/C6 record, making it the quickest and fastest IRS-equipped late model Corvette in the country. With an 8.15 at 172-mph qualifier, Mark was a little outgunned but still managed to make the big show and found himself lined up in the finals in addition to sealing up the World's Fastest Corvette title. Mark Koehler ("Home Built... Mark Koehler ("Home Built Wrecker," July '09), qualified for Drag Radial with a 7.60 at 167 mph, but couldn't make round 1 of eliminations due to an issue with the engine's number 6 piston. Mark told us he isn't sure what the problem is yet, but he plans on getting it back up and running soon-we're sure we will see more of him in the future. Looking as evil as ever, the... Looking as evil as ever, the LMR Firehawk, which debuted at last year's LSX Shootout in Memphis, had no trouble getting it done this year. During qualifying, Steven Fereday took the Low ET and Top Speed spot, running a stout 7.54 at 191 mph. It was during round 2 of eliminations... It was during round 2 of eliminations that the twin-turbo Firehawk from LMR really showed the world what it could do, running a 7.24 at 209.3 mph. This put LMR almost 25 mph faster than anyone else in the field, a testament to their engine and turbo combination, which (incidentally) puts them on a short list that have run over 200mph in the quarter-mile with an LSX motor-not to mention just ahead of Mike Brown as the fastest on stock suspension. It wouldn't be Drag Radial... It wouldn't be Drag Radial if it didn't have drama! Due to an issue with Tom Kempf's tech card, the eliminations ladder was changed over night, which made the first round of eliminations a wild one. Here, you can see Tom left early due to a staging issue, which gave the round one win to Mike Brown. The final round of eliminations... The final round of eliminations saw Steven Fereday lined up alongside Mark Carlyle. Mark, who knew he was outgunned from the onset still put up a strong 8.23 at 169 mph, securing him the Runner Up spot. Steven Fereday piloted the LMR entry to a 7.81 at 179 mph, enough to earn him the title of the LSX Drag Radial Champion and World's Fastest Firebird! With the racing complete and... With the racing complete and another year of competition in the books, everyone involved in the 2010 LSX Shootout should have left St. Louis with something to feel good about. GM Performance Parts put up the World's Fastest LSX Challenge and gave awards, money and a jacket to the people who qualified with the fastest Camaro, Firebird, GTO, Cadillac, G8 and Truck. Think you have what it takes to win next year? There is only one way to find out...
