In racing, as in life, sometimes you just have to sit back and weather the storm. In LSX racing particularly, it seems as if that storm likes to show up around midday on Sunday, and stick around until you just can't stand it any longer. But, rain or no rain, storm or no storm, LSX Challenge Series racing is here to stay and, despite the shortened (or extended, depending on how you look at it) schedule in Atlanta for the 2nd Annual Chevy High Performance Nationals, held May 31 through June 2nd, 2013, there was still a monumentally good time to be had by all.

Coming back to Atlanta for the first time since its inception, the CHP Nationals had a lot to live up to. Last year's event was a smashing success and great crowds packed the track all three days to catch a glimpse of the action. For 2013, even with the terrifying weather forecasts, the crowds swelled even larger, the pits even bigger, and the action more intense. The car show, for example, packed every single available row and then some, giving fans of the event a chance to check out everything they could imagine, from a survivor '69 COPO Camaro to a brand new '12 COPO and almost everything in between.

The autocross, sponsored by Jet Hot, drew another humongous field, filling the competition with well-appointed late-model racers and high-dollar Pro Touring rides competing head-to-head for the fastest lap. Even our own Editor Parker was on hand to give the course a whirl, putting in several fast laps in the GMHTP Fifth-gen Camaro.

Of course, the heads up LSX action is what we live for and the CHP Nationals didn't disappoint. LSX Drag Radial, All Motor, Real Street, Fifth-Gen, Rumble and True Street drew competitors from all across the country and the racing was tight in almost every class. Although the final round was cut short—which will now take place a the LSX Shootout—the action was no less intense, with several classes pairing the number 1 and 2 qualifiers, some of whom were split by mere 10ths of a second, in the last rounds of competition.
