Unlike its 346-cube predecessors, the LS7 harbors a borderline insane 427 cubic inches of Gen IV power. With the shields removed, the only obvious visible changes are the plug in the valve cover where the oil-fill neck usually resides (relocated for the dry-sump system) and the more extreme shape of the intake manifold. A keen eye would also likely detect the different head-casting number, as well as the factory headers.

Ample seat side bolstering makes the Z06 a pleasure to pilot around town or on the racetrack, thanks to the perfect blend of support and comfort.

If you intend on getting a Z06, get to know the area on the tachometer shaded in red. After a proper break-in, you'll be getting acquainted with it rather quickly! The instrument panel is not that much different from the regular C6, save for the 7,000-rpm redline and Z06 crest.

Nothin' says lovin' like huge meats being drawn to a halt by brakes the size of a Geo Metro's wheel. 14-inch front and 13.4-inch rear brakes bring this rocket back down to earth in a hurry, no special license required.

Some quick acceleration tests on an un-prepped surface revealed a 3.9-second sprint to 60 mph, and 11.9 quarter-mile e.t. at 123. As soon as we can wrangle the keys of another test Z06 from GM, we'll head to Englishtown and let fly. Are low 11s in the cards? Stay tuned...

The dry-sump reservoir looks right at home in the engine bay of the Z06. The lines are neatly and thoughtfully run, and a casual observer may not even notice the system nestled in the bay.
