Dick Harrell was one of the first people to start shoehorning 427s into Camaros back in the late '60s (before the introduction of the ZL1), so it is all the more fitting that this C5R-derived 427ci LS1-powered Camaro bears his name. All Dick Harrell Edition cars also bare the signatures of Harrell's crack staff from his shops in St. Louis and Kansas City. Similar to GMMG's ZL1s, the Harrell Edition cars also boast ported Holley intakes, Whisper carbon fiber airlids, air conditioning, and full emissions controls. While the big 244/248 duration cam tends to run a bit dirty, the Camaros will still pass the emissions readiness test. The objective was not only creating one of the baddest Chevys ever made, but also to create a drivable, livable car that wouldn't just sit in the garage.

Unlike the production Dick Harrell cars, Ron's pilot car has a painted FAST intake, Nick Williams 90mm throttle body, Futral Motorsports-built solid roller 347, and runs off a Speed Density tune. The custom hand-ported LS6 heads are from Meaux Racing in Abbeville, La., which Futral uses on all its serious builds.

GM Performance Division helped recreate the widebody kit originally seen on the Sunoco-blue/Penske show car. This Fourth Gen Camaro was designed to model Mark Donohue's famous '69 Camaro race car, which was amply displayed at the Woodward Dream Cruise a few years ago. GMMG was given exclusive rights to recreate the fiberglass and carbon fiber panels strictly for the Dick Harrell Edition Camaro only, so don't expect to see any copycats or clones.

Kooks 1 7/8-inch long-tube headers, 3-inch Y-pipe, and high flow cats are unique to this project. However, the QTP electric cutout and GMMG cat-back were such a perfect combo on the ZL1s that GMMG owner Matt Murphy decided to implement them here as well.

Up until the widebody conversion Mowen's Z28 had been a streetable solid roller nitrous car, but he used this opportunity to apply a custom dark red metallic paint job and convert it to a dedicated race car. Unlike most racecars, though, Ron took meticulous care to restore the Camaro, adding GM flat black undercoat to the undercarriage and actually painting his tubular suspension components Orion Silver. It's no wonder Ron won a car show the first time out.

With the help of GMMG body man Keith Lanning, Ron did some custom body work such as filling in the antenna hole and extending the wheel houses by 2.5 inches. Unlike the regular Dick Harrell cars, Ron required the stock .75-inch lip to squeeze in the 28x10.5-inch slicks. As a drag car, it also deviates from the GMMG exhaust setup by using a set of Kooks 1 3/4-1 7/8 stepped race headers to empty directly to the atmosphere.
