Second Childhood
Jesse Fisher of Oshkosh, Wis., says turning 50 doesn't have to be bad. Three years ago he purchased the Camaro he always wanted, a 2002 Z28, and he hasn't looked back since. A healthy combination of performance and appearance mods have earned him two First Place trophies out of the three shows he has entered it in. So far, bolt-ons have been the prime enhancement to the LS1, including an SLP cold air induction, Flowtech long tubes, an off-road Y-pipe, Flowmaster cat-back, and a Predator tune. A Textralia clutch, Hurst Billet Plus shifter with a UMI short stick, and a 160-degree thermostat make driving in a straight line a little more pleasurable. A Spohn adjustable torque arm, UMI Panhard bar, strut tower brace and control arms with DMS springs and custom subframe connectors help through the twisties. Boyd Coddington Smoothie IIs, '69 style badges, and aluminum interior accents dress up this hot rod.

Craig's List
Having owned his 1994 Formula since November 1997, Master Sgt. Craig Hillsman of the USAF (stationed at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nev.) has amassed quite a list of mods. The most noticeable of course is the SLP Ram Air hood, which is complemented by the factory Ram Air airbox with a K&N filter, an airfoil and coolant bypass. A TPIS fuel pressure regulator, GMPP LT4 1.6 rockers, valvesprings, valve covers, knock module, Taylor wires and relocation kit keep the motor fresh and responsive. A PCMforLess tune, Pacesetter mid-length headers, high-flow cat, cut out, Borla Cat-Back and CSI electric water pump complete the list of bolt-ons. The 4L60E has been freshened with a TransGo shift kit, B&M cooler, and Energy Suspension polyurethane mount. Energy front-end links are also used to firm the suspension along with Spohn lower control arms, BMR strut tower brace and Panhard bar. An Accel ignition, retard box and MSD window switch is used to keep up with the 100-shot from a Nitrous Express kit. A full complement of Autometer gauges line the interior, while 275/40/17 Kumho Ecsta rubber lines the stock WS6 wheels.

Barbour Shop Octet
North Jersey native Chris Barbour can frequently be seen racing his 2002 35th Anniversary Limited Edition Camaro SS at Island Dragway and Englishtown Raceway Park. The 21-year-old boasts bolt-ons such as an MTI clear lid, QTP long tube headers, off-road Y-pipe, and GMMG exhaust. The primary enhancement to his modest LS1 comes from PRC ported LS6 heads and a Magic Stick V3 cam. When the mood strikes him, though, Chris gives the 346 cubes a little squirt with a Nitrous Express wet kit. The instant 150hp addition necessitates some quick shifting on the T56 before bouncing off the rev limiter.

Wasting No Time
The temporary tags were probably still on Shane Doweny's 2005 Z51-equiped C6 when he pulled off the stock air intake and filter. After purchasing the C6 back in September of 2004, a Vortex Rammer cold air intake and B&B cat-back were used to open up the LS2's lungs. Currently, the Gen IV also sports Taylor 10mm wires, which could be well exercised if Shane does decide to pick up an APS twin turbo kit. An LPE hood, red fuel rail covers, red calipers, and Z06 quarter-panels were used to spice up the exterior. A set of rims may also be on the way to enhance the 1- to 1.5-inch lower stance. Meanwhile, the interior was furnished with a carbon fiber dash kit, Lloyd mats, 5 percent tint, JL Audio speakers, and an Eclipse touch screen head unit with navigation, DVD, and an 8-disc CD changer.
