2006 Pontiac GTO
| HP/TQ | 400 hp, 400 lb-ft |
| ENGINE | LS2 6.0 Liters, V-8,16 valves (OHV) |
| TRANS | Four-speed auto or six-speed manual |
| DRIVE | Rear-wheel drive |
What's New?The death of the Goat. As the Camaro gets revved up for production in late 2008, the current GTO will be phased out.
Advertised Perf0-60 in 4.6 sec.
Base Price $33,290
Why buy?Until the Camaro is released, the GTO is still the only pony car GM produced since 2002. If you're lucky you may be able to steal one off a lot for a good price. And who knows? It could be a collector car one day-especially if you happen to pick one up in Fusion Orange or Spice Red Metallic exclusive to the '06 model year. Love it or hate it, the GTO is still one heck of a performance car (thanks to the mighty LS2) that rides like a Caddy, with a classy interior to boot.
2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS
| HP/TQ | 395 hp, 400 lb-ft |
| ENGINE | LS2 6.0 Liters, V-8,16 valves (OHV) |
| TRANS | Four-speed auto |
| DRIVE | Rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive optional |
What's New?Instead of being a trim package, the SS has become its own model-divided into the 1SS and 3SS. The difference between these two is simply the options list. The 1SS is a more stripped down version with cloth seats, which has helped lower the base price. Meanwhile the 3SS is for those who want the performance, but will sacrifice none of the comfort.
Advertised Perf0-60 in 5.7 sec., 62-0 in 135 ft
Base Price $31,715
Why buy?The Trailblazer SS represents everything that is great about a performance SUV-marrying your need for speed with the pull of practicality. Whether towing the race car or hauling a load of kids to school is your bag, this baby has got you covered. And once you dump off the excessive baggage, she'll run solid 14s. Not bad for a 4,500-lb grocery getter.
2007 Silverado SS
| HP/TQ | 345 hp, 380 lb-ft |
| ENGINE | LQ9 6.0 Liters, V-8, 16 valves (OHV) |
| TRANS | Four-speed auto |
| DRIVE | All wheel drive or optional rear-wheel drive |
What's New?As the Silverado is overhauled next year, the SS's fate is questionable. This may be your last chance to get the 4.10-geared, 4L85-equipped hot rod. As with last year, rear-wheel drive is available-perfect for the 1320.
Advertised PerfN/A
Base Price $36,625
Why buy?The SS package adds stunning exterior enhancements and the 345-horse LQ9, which is perfect as a daily driver, tow vehicle, or work truck. Meanwhile, those with bad intentions have the perfect basis for a sick race truck. The beefy rear end, tranny, and 6.0L iron block are just screaming for a big turbo or two and maybe even some nitrous.
