Chris' Impy weighs in at 3,460 pounds, which is easily 600 to 700 pounds lighter than your typical sled (thanks to a Glasstek fiberglass hood, Rustic Racing aluminum bumper supports, AFCO aluminum radiator, AFR aluminum heads, Kirkey racing seat, Lexan windows, Percy's Speedglass windshield, and a bare-bones interior). This gives his boat a huge advantage at ISSCA events, especially on the autocross course.

Though the Impala's size gives up a little in the corners to lighter F-bodies and 'Stangs, the potent 400 rear-wheel horsepower 383 LT1 allows Chris to pull ahead of AI cars on the straights-though he proves no match for the 700-plus horsepower AIX cars he is forced to run with, since he exceeds a 9:1 power-to-weight ratio.

With the intent to keep costs at a minimum while reliably making the most power possible, Chris went with a 383 hydraulic roller setup, using AFR heads (ported by Lloyd Elliot), an Eagle rotating assembly, and JE flat-top pistons for a 12:1 compression ratio tuned by PCMforLess for pump gas. Since the motor mounts were moved back substantially for better weight distribution, Second Gen Camaro headers from Flowtech proved a good fit, along with a custom 3-inch dual NASCAR-style exhaust.
