ArCtic Blast
Corey Byler is not just an avid GMHTP reader and GM enthusiast, he's also the owner of this Arctic White 2000 Trans Am WS6. Being a Watkinsville, Georgia, native, having anything but a GMMG exhaust system would be unthinkable. Pacesetter long-tube headers and a Y-pipe with high-flow cats were added for good measure, as well as a healthy Thunder Racing cam spec'ing out to 231/234 duration at .050, .640/.590-inch lift, and 112 LSA. COMP 921 valvesprings were required for the high lift cam, as well as Thunder Racing hardened pushrods and an LS6 intake. The six-speed currently uses a 4.11 gear to bring the LS1 into its newly raised powerband, buzzing up to 6,800 rpm. Corey has yet to put the TA on the dyno, but assures us that soon enough he will have solid numbers and a custom tune to boast.
Polished to Perfection
It took three weeks of polishing the stainless steel Magnaflow Cat-Back and Corsa tips on Jon Jones' 2001 SS before it could decorate his undercarriage. The pristine 26,000 mile SS also has a set of Kooks headers and off-road Y-pipe, to which the Cat-Back is affixed. The stock 10-bolt was sandblasted and coated with POR-15 before a TA Performance girdle was bolted up and new brakes were put on. The 24-year-old says it has never been driven in the rain and rarely sees action unless he is going to a local car show or cruise night. It's a shame he doesn't get to enjoy the Sparco Torino 2 seats, SLP shifter, or Koni shocks. Aside from the 17 percent tint on the windows, Jon says he did all mods back in Cincinnati. This includes an SLP airlid, ported throttle body, MSD plug wires, 160-degree thermostat, NGK wideband O2, Prothane motor mounts, and a custom tune using EFILive. Handling is not neglected having installed a Spohn Panhard bar, UMI control arms, torque arm relocation kit, and C5 brake conversion with Hawk HPS pads and Power Slot rotors. The next round of mods may include a set of ported heads, cam, LS7 clutch, and Hotchkis strut tower bar.
