Texas Special
Twenty-seven-year-old Alex Espanon of Harlingen, Texas, is packing some serious heat in his 2000 Z28 with a TNT F2 nitrous kit, LME forged 347, Texas Speed 231/237 duration cam, LS6 intake manifold, Shaner S2 throttle body, TSP carbon-fiber airlid, ASP underdrive pulley, Hooker long-tube headers, and custom 3-inch X-pipe. A TH350 trans, 3,200-stall converter, Bogart D10s with Hoosier skinnies and 26x10 slicks enabled a 10.3 at 130 mph on juice. On motor, 11.6 at 116 mph is the best the stock suspension, rear with 3.42 gear, and stock heads would allow. On the street, Alex runs American Racing Torque Thrust II 17x9.5 and 17x11 wheels with Nitto 555 275/40/17 rubber up front and 315/35/17 drag radials out back. A 9-inch, 3.50 gear, and TNT F4 direct port kit await the Texan's future.
Life Goes On
The days have long since passed when Randy Field of South Lyon, Michigan, was cruising in his '64 GTO or '69 Vette. His not-forgotten hobby was recently rekindled when his wife gave him the nod to pick up this 2005 Cadillac CTS-V. A B&M shifter, AutoVation aluminum pedals, STS-V fog lights, and 3M clear bras soon enhanced his six-speed LS6 combo. Kooks long-tube headers, X-pipe, and a Corsa catback give the CTS-V its muscular exhaust and some extra juice between stoplights. Hotchkis sway bars, Ground Control lowering kit with Eibach springs, and GM FG2 shocks add to the already impressive four-wheel independent suspension. The icing on the cake was a Magnuson supercharger for a serious kick in the pants.
Back From The Grave
Jeff McCammon calls his '87 T-type WE4 not only his pride and joy, but his pain, as well, after bringing it back from grave condition. Five years worth of work yielded a rebuilt 231 V-6 with Diamond forged pistons, Comp Cams hydraulic roller, lifters, beehive springs, Magnum pushrods, ported heads and intake, 62mm throttle body, and T&D rocker arms. A set of 60-lb/hr injectors and a FAST computer keep pace with a TE-61 turbo. Cold-air induction, front-mount intercooler, and 3-inch exhaust are at all points of entry and exit from the hairdryer. A TCI StreetFighter trans transmits the power to a rebuilt 10-bolt with a Richmond gear, Auburn posi, Moser 31-spline axles, and Mickey Thompson drag radials.
Nix The Competition
Frankie Nix of Ashboro, North Carolina, enjoys spanking GT500s with his '06 C6 thanks to LG Motorsports long-tube headers, high-flow cats, a mild cam, K&N filter, 160-degree thermostat, and a tune by Carolina Auto Masters. The six-speed automatic Z51 has spun the rollers to the tune of 406 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque with an otherwise stock LS2. On the stock runflat Goodyear tires, the C6 managed a 12.0. However, with stock-sized Michelin Pilot PS2s he managed to whittle that down to 11.37 at 124 mph. With a recently purchased set of MT drag radials and 17-inch wheels, Frankie hopes 11.0s may be in the cards.
