Hooked On Speed
Twenty-five-year old Aaron Foster from Niles, California, affectionately calls his '98 Camaro the "Black Beast." The six-speed Z28 has a D&D Performance-built T56 backing up an LS6 383 stroker with Diamond forged pistons, Eagle crank, and Scat rods. Patriot Stage 3 ported high-compression heads, 230/232 duration cam, FAST LSX 90mm intake manifold, and Nick Williams throttle body make up a potent top end. On the exhaust side, Hooker long-tube headers, off-road Y-pipe, Borla exhaust, and a QTP cutout were used for additional gains. A Walbro 255-lph pump and 36-lb/hr injectors supply the substantial motor combo with fuel. The suspension is a mixed bag, using Strano Performance sway bars and Hotchkis springs along with Koni adjustable shocks. More suspension mods are on the way, as is a Moser 12-bolt in preparation for the MT drag radials waiting in the garage.
Hi-O From Ohio
Jason McBride of Alliance, Ohio, is proud to show off his 1991 Camaro RS. The loyal third-gen owner says he is determined to stay true to his 305 TBI, purchased near stock while in high school in 1999. He has added a K&N air intake, CFM 2-inch throttle-body spacer, and Edelbrock Performer TBI intake manifold to open up the intake path. A high-flow throttle body and Comp Cams hydraulic roller optimize a set of World Products 305 Torquer heads for the small bore. The electrical system is well endowed with an Optima battery, Taylor plug wires, and MSD coil to boost ignition spark. A set of headers and cat-back exhaust were already present at the time of purchase. Ronal Firehawk 17x9.5 rims with Kuhmo 255/45/17 rubber give grip and style to the exterior, which also has the benefit of a Hawks third-gen 5-inch rear spoiler, C4 exhaust tips, custom red stripes and powdercoated emblems. Polished valve covers and a Z28 front grille insert with fog lights also shine up the third-gen, which Jason says will soon be receiving some more performance enhancements, like a custom chip from LS Racing, torque converter, and either a 3.73 or 4.10 gear.
Homebuilt Hero
Christian Garcia of Sacramento, California, is responsible for building this 433-horse 2001 Trans Am. This feat was accomplished with Wegner CNC-ported heads, a Comp cam, Kooks long-tube headers, FAST LSX 90mm intake manifold, and B&B exhaust. A friend pitched in to provide a custom tune using HP Tuners, and a local shop built the 4L60E, which was paired to a custom 3,200-stall converter. However, Christian installed a full UMI suspension from the K-member and front control arms back. For handling and an aggressive stance, Eibach lowering springs were paired with Koni adjustable shocks at all four corners. Red-hot Boze Alloys 18x9 and 18x11.5 rims with sticky Michelin PS2 rubber really set this TA apart. C6 Z06 brakes were fitted to the front using UMI's brackets, and custom brackets were made to bolt up the rears to a narrowed Moser 12-bolt with 3.73 gear and an Eaton posi.
Good-Looking Goat
The name of the game is subtlety for Brian and Sarah Little of Biglerville, Pennsylvania. Their six-speed 2005 GTO sports chromed stock 17-inch wheels, 15 and 35 percent tint, and Grafxwerks emblem overlays. Though not seen in this picture, SAP bumpers with a repainted lower valance and stainless GTO inserts have also been added to gussy up the exterior. King's progressive-rate rear coil springs and JHP gauge pod add to the styling, but also serve a useful purpose in performance. The exhaust has been enhanced with Edelbrock shorty headers, Stolenfox H-pipe, and Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers. A K&N air filter, relocated IAT sensor, AMW oil catch can, MSD plug wires, and short-throw shifter are all notable deviations from stock. The icing on the cake is a custom tune from TT Performance to dial-in the LS2's mixture and timing.
