Requesting A Fly-By
US Air Force Tech Sgt Sean Wall shows his fellow flyboys at Fort Scott AFB in Collinsville, IL what speed really is with his twin-turbo C5. The Nassau Blue '99 Vette came from the factory with a T56, which has since been enhanced by a Textralia OZ-700 clutch. The valvesprings were upgraded with Comp Cams 918s, and Mototron 60-pound injectors, ECS/ALKY Control methanol injection, and a DEZ Racing speed density tune also lend the support necessary for 500 rear-wheel horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque. Steve Doten (formerly of CT Corvette) installed the APS C5 Twin Turbo kit in February of last year, which breathes out a Corsa exhaust. A Hypertech 160 thermostat, LS6 intake manifold, and Powerbond underdrive pulley free up a few extra horsepower. Nitto drag radials out back and GSD3 rubber up front give traction to the Vette, mounted on 18x9.5 and 18x10.5 Z06 rims. Bilstein shocks and lowered suspension also help improve handling. With Patriot heads and an LPE cam, Sean is hoping to push the stock bottom end to 600 hp at only 8-10psi before what he calls "a big upgrade."
Flight School
John Peters, a 20-year-old Criminal Justice student from New Alban, Indiana enjoys pimp-slapping Mustangs in his '98 Z28. He is happy to put the smack down on any blue ovals when prowling the streets of nearby Louisville, Kentucky putting the long-tube headers, off-road Y-pipe, and Comp Cams bumpstick to good use. The stock LS1 heads have been milled and paired with an LS6 intake and ported throttle body. For good measure SVO 30-pound injectors have been thrown into the mix. The 4L60E has been fully built to handle a substantial power increase from a 150-shot of nitrous, and paired with a TCI 3500-stall converter. In addition to the juice, John plans to add a 12-bolt to shore up the driveline. Traction is handled by Hotchkis lower control arms and a meaty set of rubber mounted on gunmetal gray ZR1 rims in 17x9 and 17x11.
