Highway To The Danger Zone
Andrew Ennis of South Carolina has taken his nearly stock '98 TA to 410 rear-wheel horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque since purchasing it back in April of 2006. A FAST intake, throttle body, and fuel rails as well as an SLP air lid and cold air intake make the most of a high-flowing top end package. Texas Speed PRC Stage 1.0 CNC ported LS6 heads and a custom cam from Jeff Creech of Carolina Auto Masters also have the benefit of Kooks custom long-tube headers, Y-pipe, and a Borla cat-back exhaust. A TCI converter, BMR Panhard bar, torque arm, lower control arms, and subframe connectors have helped enable a best of 11.7 at 118 mph. A BMR strut tower brace and swaybars have also been added for good measure. Andrew hopes to improve on his TA's times once his 4L60E comes back from Rossler Transmissions.
Maverick
Florida State University student Chase Smith from Ft. Walton Beach, FL bought his 2005 "GTslO" back in September '05 to retire his truck from daily driving duties. Since purchase, the factory 18s were replaced with CCW 505A wheels in 18x8.5 and 19x10. A SPEC 2+ clutch engages the T56; meanwhile a custom Comp Cams 226/232-duration XFI cam (from Thunder Racing) engages the stock valves, heads, and Patriot Extreme springs. Using Kooks 1 7/8-inch long-tube headers, an off-road X-pipe and a custom tune done by a friend, the Goat managed to crank out 406 hp and 377 lb-ft of torque on a Dynojet. Due to some hydraulic issues with the transmission, Chase has yet to improve upon the 12.75 he ran before adding the cam. Once that is sorted out, he plans to add some drag bags and rear cradle bushings as well as port the throttle body and intake.
