Interior/Exterior
The Camaro will be well-equipped with creature comforts such as Bluetooth phone connectivity, Boston Acoustics audio system, USB input, Ultrasonic rear parking assist, remote vehicle starting, OnStar, and XM satellite radio. The rear parking assist, along with Head-Up Display, will be among the optional equipment that may not be available until later in the model year. Styling is paramount with a host of 18-, 19-, and 20-inch wheels available. Twenties will come on the RS appearance package (available with the V-6 LT model and the V-8 SS), which also features HID headlamps with integrated halo rings, specific tail lamps, and a spoiler. Ten different exterior colors will be available including: Black, Victory Red, Red Jewel Tint Coat (an extra cost color), Inferno Orange Metallic, Cyber Gray Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, Rally Yellow, Aqua Blue Metallic, Imperial Blue Metallic, and White. Peruse GM's 2009 lineup and you should be able find most every color to get an idea of what choices befall you when placing your order at the local dealer.
The highly stylized interior is made to reflect the Camaro of years past while also making use of cutting-edge technology such as the available LED ambient lighting that uses its "light pipe technology" to create a distinctive blue glow. However, on the optional orange accented interior (inspired by the concept) the lighting will be orange-as will the seat inserts and stitching. The gauge cluster is first-gen inspired and displays oil temperature, pressure, battery, and trans fluid temperature via deeply recessed and LED-backlit round gauges. Meanwhile, use of low-gloss surfaces, quality fabrics, and large, chrome trimmed controls are aimed directly at contemporary competitors.
Settlemire raves that the seats are substantial enough that you wouldn't think twice about driving the Camaro coast to coast, and even someone who is six-foot-six will feel headroom is sufficient at 37.4 inches (legroom is 42.4 inches). That is partly owed to the pop-up sunroof, which maintained the concept's lines and interior space in doing so. Cloth upholstery will be standard, and heated, leather-appointed seats optional, in Ebony, Titanium (medium gray), and Cashmere/black two-tone-as well as with the optional orange accents. Six air bags are standard including the head curtain and seat-mounted thorax side impact air bags. The rear seat appears adequate for a 2+2 coupe with 35.3 inches of headroom and 29.9 inches of legroom; cargo room measures a respectable 11.3 cubic-feet.
From its graceful and muscular design, to its powerful-and varied!-powertrains, its inviting interior and vast array of color and wheel choices, from the base V-6's beauty to the SS's single-minded dedication to performance, there is no doubt that Camaro has arrived-and dare we say, it's better than ever!
Though the V-6 and V-8 Camaros look very similar on the outside, GM will be giving owners lots of options in the wheels department. The base LS gets 18x7.5-inch steel wheels with 245/55/18 all-season tires. The LT offers the same 18s, and an optional 19x8 aluminum set with 245/50/19 all-seasons. SS packages get 20x8 front, 20x9 rear aluminum rims, with 245/45/20 front and 275/40/20 rear Z-rated rubber. Also note that the RS package for LT V-6 and SS cars get special 5-spoke 20s as well!
The 2010 Camaro's seamless silhouette is owed to a one-piece quarter panel that requires a 164mm draw and, unlike fourth-gens, extends to the entire door ring and attaches to the front frame rail. A high-strength steel reinforcement is also found within the door ring to protect against side impacts, and six crossmembers help make up the underbody for rigidity. It's no wonder the chassis can weigh up to 3,900 pounds. The body panels are all steel, aside from the hood which is aluminum. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few aftermarket manufacturers making composite replacements, as on the new Mustangs.
