High Flyer
Sean Rindfleisch, currently stationed at Osan Air Base in Korea, lays claim to this 2002 Sunset Orange Z28. Current upgrades to the stock LS1 are an SLP air lid, smooth bellows, K&N air filter, ported stock throttle body, Hypertech Power Programmer, and Flowmaster exhaust. Upon returning to the States, Sean plans to install ported LS6 heads, Speed Inc's SC2 blower cam, a forged bottom end, and an LM Speed Magnacharger kit. The Air Force aircraft maintainer of four years has so far only upgraded the Z's suspension with KYB AGX 8-way adjustable shocks and an SLP strut tower brace, but with the upcoming boost in horsepower some heavier-duty parts may be in order.
Georgia Cherry
Cory Cox of Douglasville, GA revels in daily driving his 2000 Camaro SS after putting in plenty of his own hard work. Besides painting the hood with the help of his father and neighbor, Cory up-stroked his LS1 to a 383 when a rod bearing let loose after only 65,000 miles. An Eagle 4340 forged crank and H-beam rods drive the motor along with Arias forged pistons. The stock-headed, 11:1-compression motor uses a Futral Motorsports F13 230/232-duration cam. An MTI Racing custom tune, Professional Products Typhoon intake, 85mm throttle body, SLP 85mm MAF, SLP air lid, Kooks long tube headers, Texas Speed x-pipe, and Rumbler exhaust have the 383 pumping out 420 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. Next stop is Patriot's ported LS6 heads, which Cory hopes will help him reach 470 horses. A GM 4.10 gear, ZR1 17x9.5 and 17x11 rims, BMR suspension components, a RAM HDX clutch, and McLeod's master cylinder (with the drill mod) make the SS a joy to drive on the street and track.
