In February, GM finally confirmed that the US is finally getting a Holden Commodore! The 2008 Pontiac G8 is a very lightly restyled VE Commodore boasting nearly all the features missing from the 2004-2006 GTO including: OnStar, XM radio, navigation, dual zone climate control, and many other North American staple features. The G8 will be initially available in two flavors: the G8 and the G8 GT.
The base will be powered by the LY7 3.6L V-6 developing 261 horses at 6300, and 250 foot-pounds at 3200, while the GT1s 6.0L L76 V-8 develops 362 horsepower at 5700 and 391 foot-pounds at 4400 (supposedly on regular fuel!). The rumor mill says the 2008-2009 G8 will be built in Australia while the 2010+ G8 will be built in Oshawa, Canada alongside the new Camaro. Since the Camaro and G8 share the same basic platform, sharing plats should save GM quite a bit in shipping costs alone. Final pricing has not been released, but if Pontiac prices and markets this car correctly its likely it will steal sales from uplevel European sedans costing considerably more.
