GM High-Dollar Performance!
It was with a certain amount of disappointment that I read your reply to Mr. Culver's letter in the April issue. You seem to imply that your staffers are so taken up with the LS series engines that any future features on the LTs will have to come from the readers. The readers with TPI L98s then must really feel left out. We don't even see features on swapping LS engines into older (pre-1993) cars or trucks. This, I guess, being a given, considering Editor Jensen's apparent infatuation with late-model Corvettes and Caddys. Is the magazine up for a name change to GM High-Dollar Performance? Yes, I would love to be able to run out and buy a crate LS9 for one of my projects. But my retirement income will have to take a definite upswing first.
I feel sure that a lot of your readers, like myself, enjoy and do work on their rides at home. So, a shop that will work on an older EFI vehicle is not that much of an issue with us. Aside from the ignition, we never felt an LT1/4 is any harder to work on than any other GM small-block. Makes me wonder if the GMHTP staff ever did an in-car head and cam swap on an LS engine themselves, in their garage. How about doing some of your articles under these conditions, rather than running off to some pro shop with the current project.

You hit the nail on the head Jack: we put so many Vettes and Caddys in the magazine (especially on the cover) because frankly, the lowly Camaros and Firebirds are beneath us. In fact, Jensen, Parker, and Chris Werner only drive F-bodies to work as a joke, and then promptly jump into their high-priced imports to grab a quick manicure. And speaking of taking care of our hands, we wouldn't dream of doing any engine work personally-we might cut ourselves!
Seriously though, if you read our response in that issue, it has nothing to do with "the staffers being taken with the LS engines"; only that LTs are now a fraction of the LSs in our current market. And as far as the difficulty of working on LT vs. LS, everyone in this office agrees that the LS is easier ... The truth hurts (literally, especially when changing an LT's plugs.)
We are always on the lookout for reader input regarding this magazine-regardless of engine type, reader submissions make for great content! Now if you'll excuse us, it's time for our private mechanic to install a new LS9...
New Tech On The Horizon
I would just like to comment about the magazine. I think it's great. I subscribe to some other mags covering muscle cars but I'm a dedicated GM guy and am only 24, so that may play a part in why I like fuel injection! I hope GMHTP continues to cover LS1 F-bodies as we start to see newer technology evolve, such as LS3s, but I would also like to see articles on those as well. I think the article on the 2.4 Cobalt turbo kit is great. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the note Mike. We're all over the LS stuff and have some very exciting next-generation tech coming right up. And in regards to the turbo Cobalt, owner Chris Werner had great luck during the tuning, dyno, and track testing of it-see this month's tech section for the results!
