Admittedly, Miami might not be the first place you think of when someone mentions an LSx obsessed town. In fact, until recently we thought that it was mandatory to drive a Lambo but, as it turns out, the Miami GM scene is huge. We had our first encounter with this particular group of enthusiasts when we met Alcides Martinez ("Miami Vice," Sept. '09) and featured his killer drop-top, turbocharged 2002 Trans Am. Intrigued, we had to dig deeper and find out more about Miami and the local GM scene. Special thanks goes out to Jonathan Camere for snapping some great shots of just some of the Miami GM cars. You can check his other work out at www.camerephotography.com.What To Expect:
If you are in town, check out Speed Style and Performance, which is one of the largest automotive-based clubs in the Miami area. Rebuen Alvarez, president of SSP told us that "The LSx scene is alive and well in Miami! In a town as diverse as Miami, where exotics are as common as a Honda Civic (in the rest of the country), the LSx truly holds its own. Here, Z06s roam the streets looking to embarrass overpriced Ferraris and Lambos, while our F-bodies and the new 2010 Camaros show everyone who is the real American Muscle."
Where To Go:
SSP meets up every second and fourth Thursday at Miami Auto Collision in southwest Miami. Aside from the regular meets, members of SSP can also be found racing on the pit road at Homestead Miami Speedway for some killer eighth-mile action. Yes, we said on the pit road, and it is legal! If you are more into the show scene, Miami has a ton of those and you can go alone or with a group (SSP usually brings 50-70 cars). If you aren't in town, you can hang out with SSP online at www.speedstyleandperformance.com or find them on various other LSx-based websites, including GMHighTechPerformance.com.Where To Shop:
Miami has a bunch of cool LSx shops, including Masport Speed Shop, Horsepower Sales of Florida, and Extreme Performance. Of course, just up the road from Miami are Blow By Racing and Lethal Performance, both of which can help with whatever you may need. SSP is also willing to help out any of their friends, working out of a fully stocked garage to keep everyone up and running.
Cool Things To Do:
Homestead Miami Speedway has some cool racing throughout the year (including the chance to drive a real NASCAR stock car with the Richard Petty Driving Experience), but is also home to a "run what ya brung" heads-up, no lights, no times, eighth-mile race on the pit road, every Friday night. Of course, for late night cruising, there is no place better than South Beach, which is home to some of the best clubs and restaurants in the area.Think your city deserves some exposure?
