If you’ve got a half-hour to kill this weekend, or don’t like the look of what’s on TV, check out last Thursday’s edition of Wide Open Throttle. The editors of Motor Trend and Hot Rod talk about all your favorite performance cars with GM North American President Mark Reuss. Though the savvy executive was tight-lipped about a potential C7-based ZR1, he gave some great insights into the design process from using lightweight materials, drag racing versus handling, and dual clutch (paddle-activated) versus standard manual transmissions. He also revealed that internally the Camaro ZL1 was going to be a Z/28, which explains some of the stampings on the inner fender liners and other parts.
Also of note, the Reuss discusses the role of concept cars such as the new Elmiraj concept. And he shared this nugget: “A V-8 will fit in the Alpha platform.” There is plenty of room for speculation on upcoming Cadillac models and other developments at GM.
