The Stage I head was specifically designed for the head and cam contingent. Rather than develop a head porting philosophy for all out racing, the porting was developed to optimize the stock valve sizes. According to Mangum, "This is especially important as developing a CNC porting program to maximize a smaller valve size means that the head won't exhibit any of the signs of a big flow head utilizing small valves such as poor low-lift velocity or port stall."
