When I left Hudson, New Hampshire,... When I left Hudson, New Hampshire, Golen was still awaiting a set of Jesel shaft-mounted rocker arms and valve covers to complete the long-block. The Jesel rockers didn't arrive in time for the dyno test, so Golen wound up installing stock L92 1.7 rockers and pedestals. Base price for the long-block is $12,495, including the Jesel rockers and the Compstar crank (not the Dragonslayer used in this test). | Using FAST XFI to manipulate... Using FAST XFI to manipulate the spark and fuel tables, Golen got the 402 tuned for a 50/50 mix of 93 pump and 104 unleaded race gas. Once dialed-in, he let 'er rip on the Land and Sea dyno (after breaking in the motor using Kooks' 1 7/8 headers to vent the exhaust). When all was said and done, the totals were 597 hp at 6,500 rpm and 560 ft-lb of LS7-eating torque at 5,000 rpm. These peak rpm and totals are indicative of the streetable cam Golen carefully chose for this build. Though a cam swap could easily net an additional 25 hp (or more), why sacrifice driveability when you already have 600 hp on tap? | |
