The Kooks headers are loosely bolted to the heads with a new set of gaskets to allow some maneuverability when slipping the engine back into the C5's cramped engine bay. | The motor is raised and wiggled until the torque tube is slipped into the pressure plate and clutch, then just one bolt is tightened until the motor and cradle is raised up the rest of the way onto the studs. To put the starter back in, the passenger-side header is removed. Once completed, both headers are tightened down with the supplied hardware. | The bottom portion of the bellhousing is removed to allow adjustment to the LuK clutch, but only after the torque tube is completely bolted back up with 45 lb-ft and red Loctite. |
With the raised compression and smaller combustion chambers, A&A decided to use NGK TR6 plugs instead of the previously used TR55s. They are gapped to .035 because colder plugs tend to blow out with the stock .045 plug gap. | BBK was kind enough to supply us with another SSI intake manifold to be port-matched to the heads before I hopped a plane to California, which gave them an opportunity to show off the handsome, new polished version.... | ...The large throttle opening didn't require much more than some polishing to remove the roughness from the casting process, which West Coast also performed by hand on the accessible areas of the runners.... |
...The bottom of the manifold simply unscrews, making the whole procedure very simple. | The gaskets from the old manifold were looking a little ragged, so they were replaced by a set of FAST gaskets, which seemed to provide a much better seal. The MAP sensor and BBK throttle body would also have to be bolted up before the manifold was laid back on top of the valley cover. With boost on the brain, the A&A crew put red Loctite on the manifold bolts upon installation. | The fuel rails, injectors, MAF, brake booster, and BBK intake were then repositioned while the oil was being drained and replaced by some fresh Mobil 1. Fresh coolant was also dumped into the reservoir prior to reinstallation of the radiator, water pump, and hoses. |
