Chevy Camaro Z28 LS3 Engine Swap - Fourth-Gen Gen IV
With Nick and Jake lending... With Nick and Jake lending Rob a hand, the subframe assembly is dropped all the way down and rolled away. The LS1 is free! | Swapping Parts Time to transfer... Swapping Parts Time to transfer some parts: a 13mm socket is needed to remove the LS3's exhaust manifolds... | ...in order to transfer over... ...in order to transfer over the Hooker headers. | Since the LS376/480's oil... Since the LS376/480's oil pan won't fit with the F-body K-member, it will also need to be removed; a 13mm socket does the job. The accompanying oil pickup tube (10mm on pump itself) and windage tray are removed too. | An 18mm socket is needed to... An 18mm socket is needed to remove the LS1's motor mounts, and the crank pulley will also need to be stripped off the old motor and transferred to the GMPP crate. A 15/16ths socket removes the bolt, and a special bolt used in conjunction with a puller removes the pulley. | He removes the GMPP engine's... He removes the GMPP engine's pulley with a puller as well, then presses on the LS1's pulley. | The new motor mounts are installed... The new motor mounts are installed with 37 ft-lb of torque. | An LS3 water pump has a shorter... An LS3 water pump has a shorter snout that will not work in an F-body, so it is removed with a 10mm socket. The LS1 water pump is transferred over and torqued down with 11 ft-lb initially, then 22 ft-lb. | The LS1 knock sensors are... The LS1 knock sensors are removed from the old motor's valley cover and transferred to the side of the LS376/480. TTP prefers to install them on the side of the block in a tapped, preexisting hole by the motor mounts. | My LS1's oil pan, windage... My LS1's oil pan, windage tray, and pickup tube are cleaned up... | ...and installed-a new O-ring... ...and installed-a new O-ring is used on the pickup tube. | A new Scoggin-Dickey pan gasket... A new Scoggin-Dickey pan gasket is dropped down and lined up, and Rob is ready to lay down the LS1 oil pan. He installs the pan's bolts and torques the short ones to 18 ft-lb, the long ones to 106 in-lb. | My Hooker headers are bolted... My Hooker headers are bolted up to the GMPP crate with 18 ft-lb. | The LS376/480's electronic... The LS376/480's electronic throttle body is removed with a 10mm socket and replaced by the Scoggin-Dickey cable throttle (reusing the old IAC and TPS) and new Allen head bolts; access to the top right bolt is strained because of the IAC but Rob gets it done. Around 37 ft-lb secures the pulley and front of the alternator/bracket, and the side bolts require 18 ft-lb. Rob finishes this installment by bolting up the power steering pump and reservoir and the final accessory brackets. Tune in next time as we continue this fourth-gen Gen IV swap! | |
