LS2-Hydraulic VS. Solid Roller Cams
Just like the previous test with the two hydraulic roller profiles, the milder XER281HR offered slightly more mid-range power (up to 5,200 rpm), but lost out big time to the solid roller profile from 5,500 rpm on up. Not only did the solid roller valvetrain allow the motor to safely run higher engine speeds, but the cam profile offered much more peak power on this modified LS2 combination. Part of the credit goes to the valvespring upgrade since spring pressure is critical for proper valve control. Measured peak to peak, the solid roller increased the power output from 574 hp to 609 hp.
