After installation, the sleeves are finish-honed and ready for pistons when delivered. It's important the engine is broken in correctly in order to seat the rings with the ductile iron sleeves. That means regular, non-synthetic oil and moderate engine loads. "We've seen sleeves and rings that appeared unused after builders used synthetic oil from the very beginning and complained about the excessive oil use," said ERL's Sean Ragains, who says the company uses GFX rings on the in-house engines they build with Wiseco pistons.
